WHEELBARROW MINI WALK GETS GREAT RESPONSE AT PEACE FESTIVAL
Geoff Southgate of Binswood Allotment Society thought he would do a test drive for the planned ‘Wheelbarrow Walk’ around Leamington on the 29th June. He headed down to the Peace Festival, which is celebrating its 30th Anniversary, at midday on Saturday to be met by interested and enthusiastic support from the Festival visitors. He took with him a hard copy of the website petition for people to sign and got over 50 signatures within an hour. The locals were totally in support of the Binswood Campaign and all were opposed to any idea of the Council to build on any land around Leamington, let alone allotments. The majority of people he spoke to were unaware of the Council’s consultation leaflet and had never seen ‘Options for Growth’. Those that had, said that it was hard to get hold of a copy, and found the council website difficult to use. Geoff Southgate says: ‘Based on this small test drive of the wheelbarrow and the very positive reception and response to our cause, I can only feel that the planned Wheelbarrow Walk on the 29th June will achieve the desired result of making the Council realise allotmenteers in Leamington are not to be mucked about.’ |
