Several members attended the Service of Thanksgiving at Dale Street Methodist Church for the life of Ron Merrick who sadly died on 24th October 2008.

Ron was member of Binswood Allotment Society for many years, during which time his contribution was invaluable. Ron and his spanner were always at work plumbing in taps, baths and generally keeping a struggling water system running well to the benefit of all the allotment keepers.   

His cheery greeting was always welcome along with help and advice freely given to anyone who asked. His plot was a working example of how to do things the right way, it was always perfectly set out and organised with never a weed in sight, a delight to behold and particularly his very colourful chrysanthemums always a wonderful show. He was as adept with a spirit level as he was with a trowel. Ron set a standard that may of us could admire but few achieve, a great inspiration to all.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him up at Binswood, may we send our best wishes to his wife, Jean, and the family.
